If you close your eyes

If you close your eyes
In a forest

You can hear it speak

Rumbles and Groans
Rustlings and squeaks

The trees long to tell you
all of their tales
From when they were acorns
To when they survived gales

But the voice of the trees
Is quiet and slow

If you move too fast
Or think too loud
You’ll barely even know

The songs the trees sing
The rhymes and the lyrics

The leaves are the poets
And the branches the spirits

Next time
you are wandering
In a forest
to hear it

Place your arms
Gently around a tree
And your ears
will finally hear it
